Beer
Concoctions . . . You've
tried it cold, you've tried it warm, you've even tried it
flat, but you've probably never tried it like this! Here's
a list of some great mixed drinks that involve our favorite
beverage! With some of these, you'll need to
experiment to find the right proportions.

Colonial Flip -
Use a large (32 oz or more) metal or ceramic mug, to allow room
for overflow from heating. Pour in an Imperial Pint (20
oz) of strong beer (such as a barleywine or other variety with at
least 8% alcohol by volume), 2 tablespoons of unrefined sugar, 1
tablespoon of molasses, and 2 tablespoons of finely ground dried
pumpkin, then blend well. Heat an iron poker over fire
until red-hot, then briefly quench it in the liquid. Add
the rum and enjoy! (Back in Colonial days tavern
keepers would concoct all sorts of mixes, some were ghastly. One
of the more revered ones was the Flip, a favourite of New

enough beer to accomodate all of his guests for the day, both
bicyclists as well as mountain hikers. Hence, he
decided to offer his remaining beer, as a mixture of beer and
lemon-lime soda of which he had an ample supply, and thus he
nick-named his newly-found drink after the bicyclists, the
"Raddler")

Note: For concoctions that call for Guinness Stout
specifically, the intent is for the Guinness to float on top of
and separate from the other type of beer. For proper
results, you'll need to use either traditional nitrogenated
Guinness draft (from a bar that has a nitrogen tank), or one of
several types of canned or bottled Guinness that includes an
internal automatic release nitrogen capusule (commonly referred to
as a "widget"). Fill the bottom half of the
glass with the other type of beer first, being careful to produce
as little head as possible. Then, place a spoon upside
down over the middle of the half-full glass and pour the Guinness
over the spoon to equally scatter the stout, and prevent it from
mixing with the bottom beer.
